no 1 Video Company Durban, lights part 2

Hi guys, no 1 video company durban needs to discuss the second half of lights on set, when how and why.

Now of course we all know we need to use lights if a room or set area is too dark.  But we can also create mood using lights.  Harsh lighting might be used for action sequence where there is flashing bright lights.  Soft lights can be used for a drama or romance where we want faces lighted bringing out nice features that is soft on the eye.

Have you ever seen a face lit with harsh light creating shadow to create a mean look or evil.

Lighting alone can set the mood for a scene or kinda make you judge the character without even the person speaking yet.  Look at the above?  Do you trust the man?  Do you think he is likeable or approachable?  I wouldnt like to be dealing with him.  Half the face is in darkness and there is harsh shadows, dark lines across his face.  I

Now look at the image above.  Nice soft light is used to light the character, gives it a nice soft approachable look.

This is the basics of how lights create mood in a scene and the creative control we have to set the feel we want from a scene.

Documentary lighting might require you to light a scene because its too dark without light but give a thought to getting creative with your lights.   Cameras today can operate much better in low light conditions as compared to 15 years ago.  But that does not mean you don’t want lights at all.

Well thats it for now guys, hope this blog helps you with your next video production and the creative ability lights offer for your production.
