no 1 video production durban TV shoot update

no 1 video production Durban had a fantastic day on Friday.  GCV Productions and Pixel Craft Training teamed up to produce an advert for TV that should be aired in a few weeks time.  Wow what a day we had.

The day began at 8 am collecting the camera man and assistant / actor  from Pixel Craft in Overport, Durban.  We arrived on location at 8:30 am and offloaded all our gear.  The equipment we took for the shoot was the Panasonic GH 5 Camera, Zhiyun Crane, Sony NX3 camera, LED lights and a reflector.  No audio was being recorded…what a relief.  The GH5 camera on the Zhiyun Crane is phenomenal!  We got some amazing shots, well done to Manosh Seetherem from Pixel Craft Training for the incredible shots gathered.  Filming went on throughout the day until 4 pm.  The advert will be 40 seconds and we must have had at least 80 minutes of footage, you can never have too much.  I will upload pictures in the follow up blog.

Now the approach is to edit and make sure the visuals tie up with the voice over already created as well as titles and background music.   We have all those in place so theoretically the edit should be quite straight forward.  The edit already began yesterday with a very rough outline edit.  Timing needs to be worked on and the last closing title.  A final master will be uploaded when complete.

Guys, thats it for now, we need to edit and get a finished product to a customer.

no 1 video company durban – Report back after Recce

no 1 Video Company Durban has just returned from a Recce so lets chat about what occured so that you can learn and be prepared for the following:

We arrived at the location a little early. Made arrangements with the client to do a walk through together. We discussed the very first opening shot which is the reception area.  We decided who the actor was going to be (All staff and residents who appear in the production must sign a release form).  We have given the client the release form and have left it with them to sign.

The cameraman and I, and the client walked from room to room checking the lighting coming through the windows.  Remember time of day will determine the amount of light coming through.

We also looked at props required for the production.  Most props were available but there were a few things we needed to find.  A recce gives you great start to the production allowing you to iron out and foresee any problems before production.

Make sure if the client has any queries that you able to assist them.  Everyone must be happy before production starts.

Well thats it for now , hope this blog helps you with tackling a recce on location.  Be thourough.

no 1 video company durban – Recce

Hi, welcome to no 1 video company durban.  Today I am about to do a Recce in Springfield KZN.   So lets talk you through the schedule.

12pm – Pick up my colleague and cameraman.

12:10 pm – Arrive at location.  Meet the person in charge and brief them on what our plan of action is.

12:20 pm – take pics of the rooms we would like to film and create a shotlist together neat enough for the client to look at.    Check lighting and time of day.  We are not recording sound so it definitely makes it easier while on recce.

Take pics, take pics, take pics.  Very important to get the best visual representation of the location layout.  Brief staff that are available on what we need on the day of filming.  Check cleanliness of floors, walls and furniture.

We will take some video as well for test footage.  This will give our editor an idea of the footage we will give him after the filming.  The editor will treat the footage and most probably apply effect to all the shots so they match.

The idea of a recce is to relieve the pressure on filming day by doing as much prep work before filming.  Visualisation works very well with video and let me remind you we are a visual industry.  We speak using pictures and sound.

Thats it for now guys, will give you a post briefing later after the recce and a visual breakdown.  Hope the client does’nt mind pics of their location being uploaded, I will most probably check with them first.

GCV Productions, video company durban and Trail of Lights

Hi guys

Today’s blog is all about no 1 video company durban and Durban Botanic Gardens Trail of Lights.

LOGO

This is a very special event that has an awesome cause sponsoring selected charities that attend the event.  Trail of Lights runs for 7 nights at Durban Botanic Gardens from 6 pm till 9 pm.  GCV Productions, video company durban,  was asked to cover the event to use for marketing the event and spreading the word something special was happening in Durban.  My blog will be from a video point of view and not an organisational one so guys I’m talking about the good and few challenges we experienced making a video.  I will include the video so that you can see the final awesome product

The biggest challenge is filming at night, not an easy feat when you are on the go over a few acres of land.  Settings on the camera must be so that gain is not coming into the video.  Yes the trees are lit but with small fairy lights, not big floodlights.  Durban was also experiencing heavy rain for the few days before the event so there was lots of water around which is difficult to see at night.

I decided to shoot the whole event on the DJI Osmo and the Z Axis which gives the awesome feel of the camera flying through the trees

The Osmo and Z Axis were awesome to use and made the job very easy.  Shots were quick and I got to move throught the Trail of Lights very quickly so that a couple of runs can be done.

I decided against interviews….not sure why but just felt that we can do a video without talking heads and the organisers were happy to leave them out so as to not steer towards favouritsm for some charities and not others.

Welcome to 2018

Welcome to the 1st GCV Productions blog for 2018.   It has been a while since I last blogged so its good to be back and blogging.  Hope our readers have been good and hitting 2018 hard.  Whats new in 2018?   No new gear as we speak but there will be purchases soon.  So we still running with the DJI Osmo, the Sony NX3, the H5 Zoom recorder.   We will load a video for you guys to look at on this blog.   The video was filmed for the client Boxer, at Seula Zimbili, KZN North Coast.   The Boxer Youth Leadership gives children the special experience of learning together, growing together while building friends and teammates.

GCV Productions is priviledged to film them and join them for the 5 days at the camp.  What a wonderful experience, I hope every child realises the gift they been given.  A memorable video is created for them to not forget the awesome experience

The approach is to use the osmo for the action shots and the Sony NX3 for the interviews.

We have had hundreds of scholars who have been fortunate enough to have been selected to attend this ‘once in a lifetime opportunity, fully paid for by Boxer Superstores. “This Programme is a life changing experience for the pupils and many of our past graduates have gone on to become leading role-players in society. update from the no 1 Video Company in Durban

Hello.  Lets continue with whats new from the no 1 Video Company Durban.  Lots of shoots have been on the go since I last blogged at the end of last year.  I’ve been very busy with Boxer doing some great work for their Boxer B 40 campaign which got underway at the beginning of 2017.  Below is a link to the awesome video introduction designed on Fiverr.com

40 Years of Boxer RED1

The campaign involved the filming of Boxer outlets up the north coast of KZN including their Meat Factory in Ballito and their Distribution Centre in Cato Ridge.  GCV Productions approach to this was to bring in a drone to cover the large scale buildings.  Filming occured over three days.

The drone offered a brand new experience for GCV Productions, it was quite daunting controlling a drone in a very busy shop.  Well done to Andrew Martens @ Helicam Productions for his very good drone operating skills.

Below is the very awesome that was designed on Fiverr.com.  I recommend this site to anyone in the design and media industry.

I will definitely be calling on Fiverr.com for more logos and animations.  They offer superb work.

Well thats it folks for another blog from the no 1 Video Company in Durban.  I will be back with another blog on the new DJI Osmo camera so please look out for that.  Have a great weekend everybody and enjoy creating.

Osmo Camera Update from Durbans no 1 Video Company

Sorry for the long delay between blogs…been quite busy this side.  So whats new, what can I tell you guys…we have a lot of catching up.  Let me update you with what has been happening with Durbans no 1 Video company

The opening title for the Shongweni Farmers Market Video
The opening title for the Shongweni Farmers Market Video

First up is I would like to post a few links on this blog to videos I have been making

Video links at bottom of page.

So Durban’s no 1 Video Company was very busy filming the Shongweni Farmers Market in Kwa-Zulu Natal.  The video summarises the experience at the market, from the delicious food, fresh farm products to the home made products.  The video is edited to Qadasi and Maqhinga music as well as has a few visuals of them performing to guests at the market.  The filming happened over 2 Saturdays from 6:30 am till 11 am.  Interviews were conducted with guests and store holders but the store holders were taken out during the edit as this could prove to be an unfair advantage for those storeholders that were interviewed.  It was a bit of luck that out of 7 visitors interviewed at the market 2 families were from overseas.

Some pics of the very talented band at the market

Youve seen the pics and the video so all you need to do is get yourself to the market and experience the awesomeness

Have fun guys, see you soon.
